The 2016/17 school year has seen tremendous growth in MISY’s physical education and athletics. We started the year with the addition of three new facilities that have had a great impact on the growth and development of the program as a whole. The new football pitch has enabled us to improve the diversity of sports at the school while also building up the football program to include after-school training for primary students.
We have been fortunate to see greater participation in inter-school sports amongst the primary students with the advent of PALY, the Primary Athletics League of Yangon. The highlight of this new organization was a years 3 to 8 football tournament at the YUFC grounds. The tournament saw over 350 students participating from 7 local schools. MISY did very well at this tournament securing 2 first place and 2 second place finishes from the 6 teams we sent.
Participation in sports amongst the secondary students also continues to grow. We have proven to be a school to watch out for in volleyball, basketball, football, track and field, and table tennis. This has been outstanding considering the young age of our teams and is an excellent indicator for the future of MISY athletics.
